The Operator position duties include, but are not limited to, being a member of the basic fire crew, monitoring unit operations, turning valves, taking gauges and instrument readings, lubrication and minor maintenance of equipment, making necessary changes to ensure product is manufactured on specification, and responding to safety and environmental incidents, should they occur, in a safe and efficient manner.
Fire crew members must be able to wear full firefighting bunker gear (weight of full gear is approximately 45 to 50 pounds) and perform strenuous firefighting activities in extremes of heat and cold weather. Depending upon the size and complexity of the fire, crew members are engaged in such strenuous activity for at least several, if not many, hours without relief and are required to haul heavy hoses and other firefighting equipment.
Responsibilities May Include
Monitor unit operations
Take gauge and instrument readings
Lubricate and perform minor maintenance of equipment
Make necessary changes to ensure product is manufactured on specification
Respond to safety and environmental incidents, should they occur, in a safe and efficient manner
Willing and able to serve on Emergency Response Team
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
At least 18 years of age
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Valid driver's license
Willing and able to perform and comply with the following:
Work 12-hr. rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime
Work outside 12 months a year in extremes of temperature
Climb up to 200 feet within caged ladders
Lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
Serve on Emergency Response Team
Work in team-based environments
Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, computer skills and mechanical reasoning
High safety and environmental awareness
Applicants must take and pass a series of basic aptitude tests to verify qualifications

The Wood River Refinery is located in Roxana, Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, low-sulfur; heavy, high sulfur; and high-acid crude oil. The crude supply is sourced domestically or from Canada. Wood River produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline, rail car, barge and truck and are shipped to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
